Finding a good coworking space with a solid internet connection and reliable electricity in Puerto Escondido is one of the hardest challenges that digital nomads encounter.
This guide has been put together to point you in the right direction of where you can comfortably work from your laptop while you’re here.
Both dedicated coworking spaces as well as restaurants and cafes that are okay with you spending the day there have been included within this guide.
Best time to visit Puerto Escondido – Digital Nomads / Remote workers
Although the wifi is not renowned for being the greatest in Puerto Escondido, with the introduction of Starlink in 2022 it is no longer unreasonable to come here if your job allows you to work remotely.
The main factor to take into consideration, however, is the time of year that you plan on visiting. If you work remotely and your job is heavily reliant on a solid internet connection we’d say it is safe to visit almost all year round apart from May & June.
This is due to the fact that this is considered the rainy season and in addition to worrying about a solid wifi signal (even Starlink can be unreliable at times), you also have to take into consideration the high likelihood of power outages.
Important tips for coworking in Puerto Escondido
Although this guide is updated regularly it is always helpful to stick to the following tips as Puerto Escondido is undergoing rapid growth and the number of coworking spaces becoming available is increasing significantly.
Test the download speed
This may be a no-brainer but it is still something to take into consideration before setting up your workspace for the day.
The download speed at the same coworking space can vary significantly from one day to the next so before plugging in your laptop and ordering food check the current download speed.
If you don’t already have it, we’d recommend asking for the wifi password and going straight to speedtest.net, and hit go.
Venues are more than happy for you to do this before ordering food as they understand how many digital nomads are here and how important a solid connection is.
One day a coworking space might be full of people and the next it may be empty. This is purely due to the quality of the connection on the given day.
Download speed guideline:
0–5 Mbps | This download speed will allow you to check your email and search google however it will be very slow |
5–40 Mbps | This is a decent download speed and it will allow you to stream videos and make video calls in addition to the above |
40+Mbps | This is a great result for Puerto Escondido and n addition to the above, you will be able to make large downloads |
Confirm the coworking space price
If you’re not working from a designated coworking space and are in a restaurant that accommodates digital nomads we’d recommend double-checking where you are sitting and asking the staff if there is a minimum spend or consumption.
In the Selina coworking space, for example, you need to spend at least 200 pesos in particular seating areas and this will only allow you to stay there for up to 4 hours.
If you sit at the bar, however, there is no minimum spend, and as long as you are purchasing a drink or food you can stay there pretty much all day without being bothered.
This is why it is good practice to grab a staff member and double-check what the table policy is before setting up for work.
Best areas in Puerto Escondido for coworking
