One of the lesser known spots to visit in Puerto Escondido is Marador Las Tortugas. Located on the headland between Playa Carrizalillo and Playa Coral this is a gorgeous lookout that is definitely worth a visit.
Where is Mirador Las Tortugas
Mirador Las Tortugas is located right in the heart of Puerto Escondido on the waterfront. It is situated between Playa Carrizalillo and Playa Coral.
How to get there
Getting to this point is pretty straightforward and can be achieved by mapping straight to the google map point. It will feel a little bit weird getting here as the point is located right in front of waterfront view houses.
Upon arriving you will see a little blocked-off bay which is ideal to leave your scooter if that’s how you chose to get here.
A short minute walk down the dirt track will take you to the point which is a great photo shot opportunity. Make sure to mind your footing as when the tide is high the waves splash onto the rocks making them wet and slippery.
Best time to visit
Mirador Las Tortugas, otherwise known as ‘The turtle’s viewpoint’ is best to visit for sunset.
Depending on if you’re planning on walking to Playa Coral or Playa Carrizalillo you may want to get here an hour or two before to give yourself a good amount of time to walk the headland.
Mirador Las Tortugas to Playa Coral
For those who love the thrill of adventure and are a little more confident, there is a dirt path that follows the headland all the way around to Playa Coral.
WARNING* This is definitely not for everyone and a high caution is issued here if you follow the track around you do so at your own risk.
For the fit and adventurous is it a fairly easy track to navigate however a word of caution is still necessary.
Now that the warning is out of the way for those that wish to undertake this journey make sure to take your time and watch your footing carefully.
The path is very thin and small and at times you will struggle to even see it and may need to climb a few rocks to get back on it.
The track itself offers a few photo opportunity spots and it will take approximately 20 minutes to get to Playa Coral depending on how quickly you navigate it.
Mirador Las Tortugas to Playa Carrizalillo
Similar to the track to Playa Coral, the path to Playa Carrizalillo is thin and should be undertaken with the utmost caution. Although it is not the most difficult track at times the water and rocks are right below so proceeding with care is highly advised.
It will take approximately 20 minutes to get to Playa Carrizalillo depending on how many times you stop to rest or take pictures.
Be sure to take suncream and a water bottle to stay hydrated on the walk. We would also recommend going with a friend regardless of whether you are venturing to Carrizalillo or Coral.
