Playa Puerto Suelo is the stunning beach that resides in front of the well-known Laguna Manialtepec. It is a lesser-known beach in Puerto Escondido however it is definitely worth a visit.
A lot of the tours that operate in Laguna Manialtepec will try to make it to Puerto Suelo for sunset as that is the optimal time to visit.
Where is Playa Puerto Suelo
Playa Puerto Suelo is located between Laguna Manialtepec and the ocean. It is 24.3 kilometers and approximately a 33-minute drive northwest of the Puerto Escondido airport.
How to get there
Getting to Playa Puerto Suelo is dependent on what time of year it is and how the rivers are flowing. You can’t simply just walk up the beach to get there as you may find the way blocked by Laguna Manialtepec and the ocean being connected.
The easiest way to get there is to go by car or bike although you may want to postpone the adventure a couple of days if it has been raining as there is a good chance that parts of the road may be covered in water from the rain making it hard to navigate if you’re on a scooter.
As long as the roads aren’t completely covered you’ll still be able to navigate around the water-covered road to eventually get to the point where you can’t drive any further. After reaching this point, you’ll want to park your vehicle (or horse) on the side of the road.
Once you’ve parked your vehicle you’ll see a little boat that is going back and forth across the river. This is your transport for getting across the river and it costs 10 pesos per person each way.
It is a very small crossing and it will only take a couple of minutes to get across. Some locals wade across the river however it is important to note that it is home to crocodiles so this is definitely something we wouldn’t recommend.
Once on the other side of the river crossing a really short walk through the palm trees will take you through to the beach.

What better way to enjoy the view than by sipping on a beer or enjoying a nice tasty seafood meal. Ribera del Rio, Playa Puerto Suelo is a restaurant that is located right on the waterfront where you can grab a bite to eat.
