This guide has been put together to answer all the questions you may have about Puerto Escondido Airport. The airport is very small and only a select few airlines currently fly here from a select few destinations. The Puerto Escondido airport code is PXM.
Where is the Puerto Escondido airport
The Puerto Escondido Airport is located a little North-West of Puerto Escondido and it is very close to all the action that this stunning Oaxacan destination has to offer.
Airport Facilities & Services
The airport has a small souvenir shop as well as a couple of food stalls and a coffee shop located near the entrance. There is only one ATM at the entrance so it is advised to bring some cash with you in case it is out of order.
The airport has parking and the first 10 minutes are free however after this point the day rate is 30 pesos. If you wish to leave your car overnight it is a total of 100 pesos. There are approximately 40 car parking spots available.
Puerto Escondido Airport (PXM) To Your Accommodation
There are a few different ways to get from the airport to your accommodation and they have been broken down and listed from easiest (most expensive) to hardest (cheapest).

Option 1 – Taxi or Colectivo from the airport to your accommodation
There is a taxi and colectivo service that operates out of the airport that will take you anywhere in Puerto Escondido that you need to go.
The most common destination is either La Punta or Zicatela and to get there via a taxi in the airport will cost 350 pesos whereas a colectivo will cost 80 pesos.
A taxi will take you directly to your accommodation whereas the colectivo service will stop at a number of accommodations dropping other passengers off on the way.
If you wish to get the airport colectivo make sure to purchase your ticket from the counter inside otherwise the driver may try and charge you more.
Option 2 – Taxi from the main road
If you wish to get a cheaper taxi you can walk out of the airport to the main road where there are taxis waiting which will take you to your accommodation for a cheaper price.
In the above example of a taxi price from the airport to Zicatela it would cost you 350 pesos. If you walk to the main road a taxi to Zicatela will only cost 200 pesos (almost half!).
Option 3 – Colectivo from the main road
When you cross over the road to the taxis if you turn left and keep walking there is a dirt path you can follow that will take you to an opening in the barricade under some trees where you can wait for a colectivo.
The colectivos here are big blue trucks and they’ll come every 30 minutes. In order to get to your destination make sure to check with the driver where they are going however if you are going to Zicatela as per the above example you would get a colectivo into central (as soon as the car starts to turn left off the main road press the buzzer) and then walk back to the main road where you will wait for another colectivo to Zicatela.
Each colectio costs 12 pesos so it means you can get to your accommodation for 24 pesos with a bit of walking involved in between stops.
We wouldn’t normally recommend this option unless you know Puerto Escondido pretty well or are traveling light and are confident speaking Spanish.

PXM to Zicatela Beach
To drive from the airport to Zicatela beach is a distance of 6.8 kilometers and it would take approximately 14 minutes to go direct.
PXM to Puerto Escondido Central
To drive from the airport to the heart of Puerto Escondido is a distance of 2.7 kilometers and it would take approximately 7 minutes to go direct.
PXM to Rinconada
To drive from the airport to the Rinconada district is a distance of 2.7 kilometers and it would take approximately 6 minutes to go direct.
PXM to La Punta Zicatela
To drive from the airport to La Punta Zicatela is a distance of 8 kilometers and it would take approximately 17 minutes to go direct.
A taxi from the airport can take you right here or alternatively if you’re not in a rush a colectivo will be a cheaper option.

There are four airlines that fly to Puerto Escondido domestically and they are as follows:
Currently, you can fly directly to Puerto Escondido from Mexico City (MEX), Guadalajara (GDL) and Tijuana (TIJ).
If you wish to fly San Francisco, SFO to Puerto Escondido or Los Angeles, LAX to Puerto Escondido you will need to fly to Mexico City first.
