Grocery Shopping – Chedraui
By far the best place to shop for groceries in Puerto Escondido is at Chedraui which is located in the town center.
Chedraui is a popular supermarket chain in Mexico, which supplies fresh produce, meats, household items, and even scooters and motorbikes for sale.
Chedraui attracts locals and tourists and the facility has a carpark underneath for both bike and car parking.
As of 2023 they still require you to wear a mask to enter the shopping center however if you forget there are people at the door selling them for 10-20 pesos each.
Alternatively located across the road is a pharmacy where you can buy them for less.
The store is usually open from 8 am to 9 pm daily and they have great offers on food and essential household items.
Local Tip* There have been a number of people that have experienced rotten eggs from Chedraui so we’d recommend purchasing them fresh from local markets instead where you can.
Puerto Escondido Minimarts
Puerto Escondido has a number of different minimarts ranging from the well-known Oxxo to smaller unbranded markets. Regardless of where you shop, you won’t be able to purchase alcohol after 11 pm as it is local government regulation.
Oxxo
Oxxo is the most famous convenience store chain in Mexico and they are aplenty in Puerto Escondido.
These stores are open 24 hours a day and are great for buying snacks or drinks (alcohol included). They also have basic essentials like bread, milk, cereal, and cooking oils.
It is worth noting that normally after around 11 pm Oxxo’s closes the main entrance and you will have to order through a window as opposed to being allowed access to the store for night safety reasons.
A lot of the Oxxo’s in Mexico usually have ATM machines however your best bet for ATMs is usually in Chedraui when it comes to Puerto.

For the best gift shopping your best bet is to visit one of the Puerto Escondido markets as they offer everything ranging from traditional food and clothing which are great gifts to take home.
