Puerto Escondido Sunset Locations
There are a number of awesome spots to enjoy the sunset and they are not limited to the ones in this list however our top favorites are as follows:
La Punta & Chingabal’e
La Punta is one of the most popular destinations for travelers wishing to enjoy the sunset and the headland and rocks at the end of the beach that connects to Chingabal’e making for an awesome place to watch the sun go down away from the crowd.
We’d recommend setting out at least 30 minutes in advance of sunset to make your way around the headland and find a good spot to watch the day’s end.
If you’re adventurous climbing Chingabal’e is well worth it as usually nobody is up there and you can enjoy sunset on your own.
Punta Vida – La Punta

If you’re looking to enjoy the sunset while having a cocktail and grabbing a bite to eat the best sunset view in town by far is the rooftop at Punta Vida.
A must-visit in Puerto, this rooftop offers a perfect blend of exquisite cuisine, cocktails, music and the best spot to see the sunset in la punta.
Zicatela
Zicatela is an awesome spot for sunset and due to the fact the beach is 4 kilometers long you’re bound to find your own little piece of beach to relax on while you enjoy watching the sun go down.
The beach is lined with a number of awesome bars and restaurants if you’d prefer to enjoy sunset over a cold drink or alternatively you can grab a drink and some snacks from the minimarket and sit on a towel at the beach.
If you did want to watch it from a venue our top recommendation is the little shack set up at Paraiso Escondido as they serve cheap and cold drinks.
Playa Coral
Playa Coral is an amazing sunset destination due to it’s exclusivity and lack of public access. The water is vey calm here so sunset swims are highly recommended as the water is very clear and inviting.
Not many people know about this beach so it is definitely a sunset that is recommended for those that like to get away from the popular destinations.
Playa Puerto Suelo
Playa Puerto Suelo is a hidden gem of Puerto Escondido and if you want to enjoy sunset away from the crowd of Puerto Escondido we’d highly recommend it.
We have made a full guide on this destination if you want to go somewhere a little bit out of the ordinary and away from most popular sunset locations.
It’s a great place to go on your own or if you’d rather go on a horseback tour to enjoy this stunning location that’s also a really cool option that we’d recommend.
Mirador Las Tortugas
Mirador Las Tortugas is an awesome location for sunset and is very easily accessible by bike or car or even walking depending on where you’re staying.
Once you reach it there is a short walk down some rocks which will allow you a full panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean making for an awesome sunset experience.
The headland connects it to Playa Coral and if you’re feeling really adventurous you can walk around and find stop anywhere along the way to enjoy the view away from other people.
Mirador Punta Colorada
Mirador Punta Colorada is a popular local sunset location and it is definitely somwhere less frequented by tourists.
Getting here isn’t the most straight forward and it is recommended to have your own car or bike if you wish to enjoy a ‘local’ sunset.
Be sure to bring snacks and drinks and a rug to set up on the headland while you watch one of the most gorgeous sunsets in all of Puerto Escondido.
