How to get there
If you’ve just arrived in Puerto Escondido then the best way to get to the hostel is via a taxi. The airport is only 8.6 kilometers and a 19-minute drive away.
What to do at Villa Bonobo
In addition to the introduction of Starlink making the hostel a great co-working space, there are a number of events run during the week which make the hostel awesome for people who are looking to meet other travelers.
Villa Boniobo runs BBQs every Wednesday where they have all-you-can-eat chicken wings, shrimp, and many different vegetables and salads.
They often run mezcal tastings at their bar for guests where an outside person will come to the house and give a tasting along with information about the mezcal-making process and why it is such an important thing for people from Oaxaca.
On Monday nights the hostel takes guests who are interested in socializing to a local taco spot to get some authentic tacos. On Thursdays, they all go to the open mic in town for live music, food, and drinks.
The nearest bars and restaurants are about 1km away in La Punta, two great restaurants are Chicama and Mundaka in the evenings. For breakfast Cafe Ole is also a great option for guests.
The best local eating experience the hostel recommends is the JP Bunker in the center of the town. It is a 15-minute cab ride to get there but once you find it behind the car wash it is an authentic local place where you can get fresh fish, cold beer, and mezcal.
If you are looking for authentic Mexican tacos the best place to go is also in the center and is called Tropicana, the tacos are 10 pesos each and are delicious.
There is a small food court just 200m away from the hostel that has a good selection of food and drinks that is great for dinner.
