Playa Punta Colorada is a discrete beach that is a 5-minute drive from the Puerto Escondido airport. The stretch of beach between Playa Delfin and Playa Punta Colorada measures 2.5 kilometers and makes for a lovely afternoon walk.

Playa Carrizalillo is located opposite the Puerto Escondido airport and is a 5-minute, 2-kilometer drive.
How to get here
The best way to get to Playa Punta Colorada is to navigate to Mirador Punta Colorada, park, and then face the water and walk down to the right.
Getting a taxi back from here is almost impossible so it is highly recommended that you have a scooter rental or a car to get here.
The track here can be quite soft so a car is the preferred option however as long as you take your time a scooter/bike will suffice.
What to do at Playa Punta Colorada beach
The beach stretches approximately 2.5 kilometers from Playa Punta Colorada to Playa Delfin so there is ample space to relax and have your own piece of beach away from the crowd.
This is not a beach for swimming however there are a lot of other things you can do while at Playa Punta Colorada.
Walk to Playa Delfin
What better way to spend the afternoon than by taking a stroll along the long stretch of virgin beach. In a destination where tourism is on the rise, this is a great place to get away from the crowd and enjoy your own piece of nature.
Bodyboard
The surf here gets quite rough and is not ideal for swimming however it has become one of the main destinations for bodyboarding.
This wouldn’t be a place to learn to bodyboard however this is a destination that attracts some of the bodyboarding greats even hosting events here.
Regardless if you know how to bodyboard you can still enjoy watching the experts do their thing.
Enjoy the wildlife
Playa Punta Colorada also has a mangrove that is home to a large variety of species of birds as well as crocodiles.
This is also a popular beach for turtle releasing in Puerto Escondido as it is a little bit more exclusive than the other popular releasing locations.
